At the end of May, Michael ran and completed the 2012 Keybank Vermont Marathon with the time of 4:09:10! In his division, he came in 75th place – an amazing accomplishment!
In addition to his marathon training, Michael decided to run his first marathon on behalf of Bridgewell by spreading awareness of our mission and collecting donations. His brother Sabino – a resident of the Bridgewell community – is 26 years of age and has Down Syndrome and Autism.
All of the donations through this marathon charity donation directly benefit Sabino and all his housemates/friends at his Bridgewell home in Saugus. Michael raised close to $4,500 with more than 65 donations and matching gifts – thank you for your support!
At the beginning of August, three families attended a meeting to discuss what to do with the donations raised to benefit Sabino and his housemates. They decided to set aside money for an appreciation dinner for the staff of the Saugus home, hire a music therapist to visit the home, Sabino will attend Ironstone Farm this fall for therapeutic horseback riding and annual memberships will be purchased for the residents to the New England Aquarium and Franklin Park Zoo.
Thank you so much to Michael for running on behalf of Bridgewell! And, a special thank you to all the staff, donors and family members involved in making sure these donations are put to good use!
