April 16 is National Healthcare Decisions Day – Bridgewell is encouraging everyone to complete an advance directive and name the person who will make health care decisions for you if you cannot make them yourself.
Director of Health Care Jane Bell says: “As a nurse, I have seen far too many people get seriously ill and their family not know their healthcare wishes. This becomes a stressful situation that perhaps could have been avoided. If the family members talk to each other about their wishes and complete an advance directive difficult healthcare decisions can be prepared for ahead of time.”
Five Wishes helps you express how you want to be treated if you are seriously ill and unable to speak for yourself. It deals with all of a person’s needs: medical, personal, emotional and spiritual.
